A 90-unit affordable senior housing development celebrated its grand opening in Columbus, Georgia.
Built on the site of the former Booker T. Washington housing complex, which was demolished in 2015, Miles Crossing Senior Residences offers one- and two-bedroom homes to residents 55 and older.
It is the seventh community completed by partners Columbia Residential and the Housing Authority of Columbus, Georgia (HACG).
“Miles Crossing represents the best of what public-private partnerships can achieve,” said Laura Johnson, CEO of HACG. “This community gives Columbus seniors a beautiful, safe, and amenity-rich place to call home—and we are proud to see this important site reborn as a cornerstone of the neighborhood.”
Miles Crossing is certified under the National Green Building Standard and meets Energy Star program requirements to help reduce residents’ utility costs, improve indoor air quality, and encourage walkability and use of public transit.
The $26 million development was financed with state and federal 9% low-income housing tax credits allocated by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs; equity investment from RBC Community Investments; construction financing from Citi Community Capital; and additional funding from HACG, the city of Columbus, and other public sources.
